Fog lights (PTF) on Nissan Almera Classic (body B10) is not a luxury, but a necessity for safe driving in poor visibility conditions. However, standard equipment rarely includes PTF, especially in basic versions. Owners have to install them themselves or in services, but even there they often make mistakes: from the wrong choice of relay to short circuits due to incorrect connection to the fuse box.
In this article we will analyze three officially approved connection methods (via a button, a separate toggle switch, integration with dimensions), we will give unique circuits for Almera Classic, taking into account the peculiarities of its electrical wiring, and we will also tell you how to avoid typical problems - for example, why PTFs can turn on spontaneously when you turn the steering wheel or flash in time with the turn signal. Let us separately focus on the choice of components: which relays and fuses are suitable specifically for this model, and which lead to overheating of the wiring.
Which PTFs are suitable for Almera Classic: selection criteria
Not all fog lights are universal. For Almera Classic critical consideration:
- 🔹 Size and Mount: standard places for PTF in the bumper are designed for headlights with a diameter
80–90 mm(For example, Hella Micro DE or Bosch Universal). Headlights with a larger diameter will require modifications to the bumper. - 🔹 Lamp type: halogen (
H3orH11) or LED. The latter are brighter, but may cause errors on the instrument panel due to low current consumption. - 🔹 Certification: a sign is required
E22(European approval) orPCT(for Russia). Uncertified PTFs may result in a fine. - 🔹 Color temperature: optimal
3000–4300K(yellow or white warm light). Blue or purple headlights (6000K+) blind oncoming drivers.
Important: if you choose LED PTFs, check their compatibility with the on-board computer Almera Classic. Cheap Chinese models often cause error "Lamp burnt out" on the dashboard due to the lack of a load resistor. This can be solved by installing an additional ballast resistor (fake resistor) parallel to the headlight.
⚠️ Attention: PTF with markings SAE (American standard) are not intended for use in Russia. They produce too wide a beam of light, which blinds oncoming traffic.
PTF connection diagrams: 3 proven options
There are three main ways to connect fog lights to Almera Classic. Each has its pros and cons:
| Connection method | Pros | Cons | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Via a button on the panel | Maximum integration, management as standard | Requires soldering of wires to the light control unit | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
| Via a separate toggle switch | Simplicity, does not affect standard wiring | Additional switch on the dashboard | ⭐⭐ |
| Through dimensions (parallel) | Minimum costs, fast connection | PTFs only work with dimensions, overloads are possible | ⭐ |
Let's consider each option in more detail.
Option 1: Connection via a button on the panel (standard method)
This method involves the integration of PTF into a standard light control system. You will need:
- 🔧 PTF power button (suitable from Nissan Primera P12 or Renault Megane 2)
- 🔧 Relay
12V 30A(For example, Hella 4RA 003 547-311) - 🔧 Fuse
15A(color - blue) - 🔧 Wire cross-section
1.5–2.5 mm²(preferably stranded)
Connection diagram:
Where can I get food? Optimally connect to fuse F10 (10A) in the mounting block (it is responsible for the dimensions). This will allow the PTF to operate only when the ignition is on. To search for the "PTF" contact in the light control unit, use Almera Classic service diagram (connector C104, contact 12).
⚠️ Attention: If, after connecting, the PTFs begin to flash along with the turn signals, it means that you have applied a positive signal to the wrong contact of the control unit. B Almera Classic the contact is responsible for the turn signals7in the connectorC104- You can’t touch him!
Check the polarity of the PTF connection (plus to plus, minus to ground)
Install a fuse WITH A RATING OF NO MORE THAN 15A
Insulate all twists with heat shrink tubing
Check the operation of the PTF with the lights turned off (should only light up when the ignition is on)

Option 2: Connection via a separate toggle switch
The simplest and safest method that does not affect standard wiring. You will need:
- 🔧 Toggle on
12V 20A(For example, Carling Contura II) - 🔧 Relay
12V 40A(with current reserve) - 🔧 Fuse
20A(yellow) - 🔧 Female and male terminals for easy connection
Scheme:
Where to install the toggle switch? Optimal places:
- 🚗 On the instrument panel to the left of the steering wheel (there is free space under the plug)
- 🚗 In the stove control unit (requires careful dismantling)
- 🚗 On the center console next to the gearshift lever (you need to drill a hole)
If the toggle switch is installed near the steering wheel, use silicone grease for contacts - this will prevent oxidation due to moisture entering through ventilation.
Option 3: Connection parallel to dimensions (budget method)
This method is suitable if you don't want to mess around with relays and buttons. The PTF will turn on automatically along with the side lights. Minus: high load on dimensional wiring, risk of fuse blowing F10.
Scheme:
[Провод габаритов (плюс)] → [Предохранитель 10A] → [ПТФ (плюс)]
[ПТФ (минус)] → [Масса кузова]
Where can I get the plus from the dimensions? B Almera Classic convenient to connect:
- 🔌 K
headlight lamp(grey wire) - 🔌 K
fuse F10in the mounting block (but this is less reliable)
⚠️ Attention: With this connection, the PTFs will light up constantly with the dimensions, which is contrary to the traffic rules (clause 19.4: PTFs can only be used in conditions of insufficient visibility). The traffic police inspector may issue a fine. 500 ₽.
Via standard button (integration into wiring)
Via a separate toggle switch (simple and reliable)
Parallel to dimensions (budget)

Typical errors when connecting PTF to Almera Classic
Even experienced car enthusiasts make mistakes that lead to short circuits, blown fuses, or incorrect operation of headlights. Here are the most common:
- ❌ Using wires that are too thin (section less
1.5 mm²). This leads to heating and melting of the insulation, especially with powerful halogen lamps. - ❌ Connecting the PTF minus to the body without stripping the paint. Oxidation of the contact leads to flickering of the headlights.
- ❌ No fuse or using a bug. In the event of a short circuit, this can burn the wiring.
- ❌ Connecting PTF directly to the battery (without relay). This causes the battery to drain quickly.
- ❌ Wrong polarity when connecting LED PTFs. They either don't burn or burn at full intensity.
Another typical problem is PTF turn on by themselves. The reason is usually that the plus is applied to the contact 86 the relay is directly from the battery, and not through the ignition button or switch. As a result, the headlights are constantly on, draining the battery.
If after connecting Dimensions stopped working, check:
- 🔍 Fuse
F10(probably burned out due to overload) - 🔍 The quality of the twists at the place where the dimensions are connected to the wire
- 🔍 Have you shorted the plus to ground (check with a multimeter)
What to do if the PTFs are on full blast?
This is a typical problem for LED PTFs connected via a standard relay. The reason is low voltage due to a drop in the relay diodes. Solutions:
1. Replace the standard relay with solid state relay (without mechanical contacts).
2. Connect the PTF directly through a separate relay, bypassing the standard wiring.
3. Install voltage stabilizer (For example, LM2596) for LEDs.
Which fuse and relay to choose for Almera Classic
The reliability of PTF operation depends on the correct choice of components. For Almera Classic The following parameters are optimal:
| Component | Characteristics | Recommended Brand | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Relay | 12V 30–40A, 4 contacts |
Hella, Bosch, Valeo | Avoid cheap Chinese relays - they often stick |
| fuse | 15A (blue) or 20A (yellow) |
Littlefuse, Bussmann | Sufficient for LED PTF 10A |
| Wire | Stranded, cross-section 1.5–2.5 mm² |
PVA, GXL | For negative wires you can 1.0 mm² |
| Terminals | "Mom"/"Dad" 6.3 mm |
Molex, TE Connectivity | Tin the terminals before crimping for better contact |
Why can't you use a fuse on 25A or 30A? B Almera Classic The wiring from the mounting block to the headlights is designed for a current of no more than 20A. Exceeding this value can lead to melting of the insulation, especially in bends (for example, near the pedal assembly).
If you install LED PTF, keep in mind that their starting current is higher than the rated current. Therefore the fuse must be on 10–15A, even if the rated current of the lamps 5A.
For Almera Classic it is critical to use a relay with normally open contacts (type SPST-NO). Relays with normally closed contacts (SPST-NC) will cause the PTF to remain on continuously until the relay operates.
How to properly fix the PTF in the Almera Classic bumper
Installing headlights in the bumper is an important step. Incorrect fastening leads to vibrations, moisture ingress and short circuits. B Almera Classic There are regular places for PTF, but they are often closed with plugs.
Step by step instructions:
- Remove the bumper (unscrew
4 boltsfrom below and2 nutson the sides in the wheel arches). - Cut out the holes for the PTF according to the template (usually included with the headlights). For a clean cut, use jigsaw with metal file.
- Finish the edges of the holes sealant (For example, ABRO GS-1100) for protection against corrosion.
- Install the PTF onto standard fasteners or screws
M5with rubber gaskets. - Connect the wires, securing them plastic ties to the bumper frame.
- Check the tightness: spray the bumper with water from a hose. If moisture gets inside the headlight, seal the joints with silicone sealant.
Important: do not use metal screws without gaskets - they will rust over time and can short the wires to the body. Optimal use plastic clips or self-tapping screws with nylon bushings.
⚠️ Attention: If, after installing the PTF, the sign on the dashboard lights upABSorCheck Engine, check to see if you have damaged the speed sensor wiring harness that runs next to the left headlight. B Almera Classic it often rubs against the bumper.
Setting up and adjusting PTF after installation
Unregulated PTFs blind oncoming drivers and do not perform their function. B Almera Classic adjustment is carried out by two screws on each headlight:
- 🔧 Vertical screw (adjusts the height of the light beam)
- 🔧 Horizontal screw (adjusts width)
Adjustment procedure:
- Place the car on a level surface
5 metersfrom the wall. - Mark the wall: horizontal line at height
50 cmfrom the ground (center of the headlights) and vertical lines in the center of each PTF. - Turn on the PTF and adjust the screws so that:
- 🎯 The upper limit of the light spot was at
10 cm belowhorizontal line. - 🎯 The center of the spot coincided with the vertical line.
10–15 meters forward, without rising above the eye level of the driver of the oncoming car.If after adjustment one headlight shines brighter than the other, check:
- 🔍 Grounding quality (negative wire)
- 🔍 Voltage at the headlight contacts (should be
12–14V) - 🔍 Integrity of the lamp (one of the halogen filaments may have burned out)
For fine adjustments, use laser level or special adjustment screen (can be made from plywood with markings). This is especially important for LED PTFs, which have a sharp cut-off line.
FAQ: Frequently asked questions about connecting PTF to Almera Classic
Is it possible to connect PTF without a relay?
Technically yes, but highly not recommended. Without a relay, the current from the PTF will pass through the power button, which will lead to its rapid failure (the contacts will burn out). In addition, the thin wires from the button to the headlights are not designed to carry high current - risk of fire!
Exception: if you use LED PTF with consumption less 5A, you can do without a relay, but be sure to install a fuse 7.5A.
Why do PTFs flash in time with the turn signals?
This is a common problem when connecting to the wrong pin on the light control unit. B Almera Classic responsible for turn signals orange-black wire in the connector C104. If you apply a positive signal to this contact, the PTFs will blink synchronously with the turn signals.
Solution: check the connection diagram and find a separate contact for the PTF (usually this is gray-red wire).
Which fuse burns if the PTF is connected incorrectly?
Most often it fails fuse F10 (10A), which is responsible for the dimensions. If you connected the PTF in parallel with the dimensions and did not install a separate fuse, then in the event of a short circuit it will burn out.
May also burn F20 (15A) - it protects the ignition circuit, to which the PTF relay is sometimes mistakenly connected.
Is it possible to connect the PTF to the heated rear window button?
Technically possible, but inappropriate. The rear window heating button is designed for short-term load (10–15 minutes), and PTFs can work for hours. The button contacts will quickly oxidize.
In addition, in Almera Classic The rear window is heated through relay K7, which is not intended for constant load.
Is it necessary to register a PTF with the traffic police?
If PTF installed in regular places and have a certificate of conformity (E22 or PCT), they do not need to be registered. It is enough that they are correctly connected and adjusted.
If you cut non-standard holes in the bumper or used PTF without certification, problems may arise when passing the technical inspection. In this case you will need declaration of scope of work from a certified car service center.
