Introduction: why photos of the Nissan 350Z are still relevant
Even 15 years after production ended Nissan 350Z (codename Z33) remains an iconic sports car, whose photographs receive millions of views. This model is the latest in the line Fairlady Z, released before the generational change to 370Z, and its design still serves as a standard for tuners and collectors. In the article you will find exclusive photos all modifications, including rare versions for Japan (Version S, Track Edition) and limited editions for Europe.
We won't just show standard press photos - here we've collected unique footage from factory presentations in 2002, filming for Japanese catalogs and archival materials from races Super GT, where the 350Z competed in the GT300 class. We'll pay special attention to details that are often overlooked: for example, how the front bumpers differ Base And Enthusiast models, or where the factory body markings are hidden. If you are planning a purchase or tuning, these photos will help you avoid fakes and evaluate the originality of the car.
Nissan 350Z exterior: photos of the body and design features
Design Nissan 350Z developed by a team led by Shiro Nakamura - the one who later created GT-R R35. The model's appearance combines aggressive lines with elegance: a short rear overhang, a long hood and “predatory” headlights have become its calling card. The photo below shows how the appearance changed depending on the configuration:
- 🔴 Basic version: 17-inch wheels, halogen headlights, no spoiler. In the Japanese market it was sold as Fairlady Z Type S.
- 🟡 Enthusiast/Touring: 18-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, side skirts and a small spoiler on the trunk lid.
- 🟢 Track Edition: body kit from Nismo, 19-inch wheels
Ray Engineering, reinforced brakesBremboand a carbon rear diffuser. - 🔵 35th Anniversary Edition (2004): unique color Ultra Yellow, black wheels, red instep supports and a plate with serial number.
Please note tail lights: their shape imitates the tail of a fighter jet - a tribute to tradition Datsun 240Z. The photo of the original Japanese versions shows that the headlight glasses have a slight bluish tint, while the European models received completely transparent lenses. Also sold in Japan Version ST with a factory aero kit, which is often confused with tuning.

Photo of the Nissan 350Z interior: what the standard equipment hides
Interior 350Z was criticized for its cheap plastics, but today it is appreciated for ergonomics of the driver's seat and minimalism. The basic equipment received fabric upholstery with red stitching, while Leather Package offered power leather seats. The photo below shows a comparison of the dashboard before and after the 2005 restyling:
- 📱 Before 2005: analog instrument panel with white dials, push-button climate control, radio
Bosewith 6 speakers. - 🔄 Restyling 2005–2009: digital odometer, instrument lighting turned orange, a connector appeared
AUXfor music. - 🎚️ Nismo versions: steering wheel with red stitching at 12 o'clock, aluminum pedals, seats with improved lateral support.
Few people know, but in Japanese versions Fairlady Z installed unique system IDIS (Intelligent Driver Information System), which automatically muted the music during heavy braking. This option was not offered in European markets. Also in Japan they sold models with optional DVD navigator, which today costs more than $1000 at auctions.
Where to look for hidden interior defects?
When inspecting your 350Z, be sure to check:
1. Leather on the steering wheel - in versions with Leather Package it often cracks at the seams.
2. Instrument lighting - in models before 2005, the LEDs burn out and the dials become dim.
3. Electric seats — the mechanism often breaks down due to moisture (check the door seals).
4. Radio tape recorder Bose — if the speakers wheeze, the capacitor in the amplifier is to blame (replacement will cost ~$200).
The photo of the original Japanese interiors shows that the gearshift lever is wrapped in leather with red lines, while the European versions used black plastic. Also in Japan they offered optional heated seats, which was not installed in the USA and Europe.
Rare photos: prototypes, racing and limited editions
Few have seen prototype Nissan 350Z 1999, presented at the Tokyo Motor Show under the name Z Concept. This car had V6 3.5 turbocharged (400 hp) and all-wheel drive ATTESA, but only the rear-wheel drive version went into production. Below are archival photos from the closed press presentation:
Another rarity - Nissan 350Z Nismo GT500built for the Japanese series Super GT. This car developed 500+ hp and weighed only 1100 kg thanks to the carbon body. Photos from the races show how much the aero kit differs from the road version: a front splitter, a huge wing and side deflectors for cooling the brakes.
- 🏁 350Z Super GT (2003–2008): 3.4L
VQ34HRwith 500 hp limiter, sequential gearboxHewland. - 🚗 350Z Nismo 380RS (2007): road version with a 3.8L engine (380 hp), sold only in Japan (300 units).
- 🎨 350Z by Italdesign (2004): a unique example with a body from Italdesign Giugiaro, exhibited at the Nissan Museum.
⚠️ Attention: On the secondary market they are often passed off as “racing” replicas with homemade body kits. Original parts from Super GT are marked NISMO RACING and a certificate of authenticity. Without documents it is 100% fake.
Comparison with Nissan 370Z: what has changed in design
In 2009 350Z replaced Nissan 370Z (code Z34), and many fans accused the new model of "losing its soul." Let's compare the key differences in the photo:
| Characteristics | Nissan 350Z (Z33) | Nissan 370Z (Z34) |
|---|---|---|
| Body length | 4315 mm | 4250 mm (shorter by 65 mm) |
| Headlights | Round (halogen/xenon) | "Cat's eye" with LED daytime running lights |
| Tail lights | Rectangular, with chrome insert | Rounded, full LED |
| Hood | Flat, with two “ribs” | Convex, with a central “bubble” |
The photo shows that 370Z got a more aggressive body kit, but lost elegance of lines. For example, the rear part has become “squat”, and the front bumper has become more massive. The analog clock disappeared from the cabin, but a 7" display with navigation. Main plus 370Z - engine VQ37VHR with variable phase system VVEL, which produced 332 hp. versus 287–306 hp at 350Z.
The 350Z beats the 370Z in two key ways: purity of design (without excessive aggression) and engine reliability (VQ35DE is less susceptible to oil starvation than VQ37VHR).
Photos of tuned Nissan 350Z: from street style to drift
Thanks to the rear-wheel drive platform and powerful V6, 350Z became a favorite of tuners. Below is a selection of photos from different styles of modifications:
- 🔥 Street style: wide arches (widebody kits from Rocket Bunny or Veilside), low landing on springs
Tein, disksWork Wheels. - 🏁 Track car: remote interior, safety cage, slicks
Toyo R888R, engine with turbo kitGReddy(500+ hp). - 🌀 Drift build: hydraulic handbrake, bevel gears, wheels with negative camber, muffler without resonator.
- 🎨 Restomod: repainting colors Datsun 240Z, retro wheels
Watanabe, vinyl stickers for the “racing livery” of the 70s.
One of the most famous tuning studios that worked with 350Z — Mine’s (Japan). Their version Mine’s 350Z R34-Spec received a motor volume 3.8L with individual chokes (like GT-R R34) and power 450 hp on stock transmission. The photo shows how very different the front bumper is with huge air intakes for the intercoolers.
Check for certificates for modifications|
Inspect the welds on the arches (a common problem when installing widebody kits)|
Make sure that the ECU is stitched for the installed turbine (otherwise the engine will “die” after 500 km) |
Check the play in the suspension (worn silent blocks are the scourge of low cars)
